AFI Highlighted In New Exhibit At Draper Museum

Alongside our mountain vistas and incredibly diverse wildlife, Cody, Wyoming, is fortunate to be home to the world class Draper Natural History Museum.  The Draper, as it is affectionately called by locals, is the preeminent natural history museum focused on interpreting the wildlife, ecosystems, and process that shape them in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Housed in the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, the Draper tells the stories of the region’s natural systems, from the smallest organisms to the largest predators, and how they interact and impact each other – including the impact humans have on the natural world.

In 2023, through partnership with Absaroka Fence Initiative (AFI), Draper staff created a display illustrating the affect fences, particularly barbed wire, can have on migrating wildlife such as mule deer.

Visitors to the Draper can see a wildlife friendly fence in the display, along with a mule deer buck who appears to want to cross it.  The illustrative panel provides additional information about wildlife friendly fences and how people can get involved with AFI, including our website address.

Partnerships like the one with the Draper are important to AFI’s mission.  Not only does it spread the word about our organization and mission, but it educates visitors from around the world about the impacts human structures can have on wildlife.

If you are interested in seeing this display as well as the other incredible wildlife and natural system exhibits, you can visit the Draper daily between the hours of 8am and 6pm.  The Buffalo Bill Center of the West is located at 720 Sheridan Avenue in Cody.
